When Design Becomes Solidarity
The luminous sculpture “SASSO” by Maurizio Scilla at SNOUF. A unique artwork that will be auctioned for charity.
During the second edition of SNOUF, from March 20 to 23, the public will be able to discover “Sasso”, a one-of-a-kind luminous sculpture created by artist and designer Maurizio Scilla, a key figure behind the sustainable vision atelier 03 Studio LAB.
The piece originates from the meeting between design history and contemporary sensibility — a dialogue between memory and transformation that characterizes Scilla’s artistic research. For years, his work has explored the creative reuse of materials and the relationship between light, matter, and nature.
“Sasso” takes shape from four rare original Vistosi opaline glass diffusers from the 1950s, produced during one of the most innovative periods of Murano design. In those years, Vistosi helped bring Murano glass into the language of international modernism, creating opaline diffusers with pure and organic forms that are now sought after by collectors and lovers of historic design.
These glasses—difficult to find intact and even more rarely reunited within a contemporary composition—form the heart of the artwork. Their milky glow tells the story of an extraordinary chapter in Italian design history.
Maurizio Scilla interprets them as stones smoothed by time, small luminous pebbles that evoke nature and the harmony of primary forms. Supporting them is a structure composed of two thick solid-brass rings, handcrafted by Italian artisans — a genuine expression of Made in Italy craftsmanship. Three luminous elements are housed within the first ring, while the second holds a single stone, emerging like an isolated celestial body.
The dialogue between the velvety white opaline glass and the warm golden tone of hand-worked brass creates a sculptural balance of remarkable elegance. “Sasso” is not simply a lamp, but a unique piece, born from the recovery of historic glass elements and their transformation into a new work of luminous art.
The artwork will be auctioned during SNOUF, turning this creation into a gesture that unites art, design, and solidarity. The auction will officially begin on Friday, March 20 at 2:00 PM, when the event opens its doors to the public.
All updates about the auction will be available through the official SNOUF app and on this website.
The auction will remain open for one month after the end of the event, allowing collectors and enthusiasts to take part in the acquisition of this unique artwork. All proceeds will be donated to a charitable organization, transforming “Sasso” into a light that illuminates not only space, but also a meaningful act of social value.
