Antonello Bonci

Antonello Bonci is an internationally recognized neurologist and neuroscientist specializing in neuropsychopharmacology and the brain mechanisms underlying addiction. He graduated in Medicine from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome and completed his neurology specialization at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

Throughout his career he has held prominent academic and research positions, including Professor of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and Scientific Director of the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), where he led groundbreaking research on addiction and reward circuits in the brain.

Bonci’s research demonstrated how exposure to drugs can produce long-lasting changes in dopamine-related neural connections, significantly advancing scientific understanding of addiction and brain plasticity.

In recent years he has also contributed to the development and clinical application of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a non-invasive neuromodulation technology used in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and addiction.

At Snouf – Fragrance Niche Event, Antonello Bonci will provide a scientific perspective on the relationship between the brain, sensory perception, and emotions, exploring how neurobiological mechanisms shape olfactory experiences and scent-related memory.
